COVID-19 may have stolen the end of their senior year and graduation ceremony, but these Mississippi StateChi Omega Seniors are ready to CELEBRATE!!
It was such a joy to spend a rainy afternoon on campus with this close knit group of girls! After four years of college life together, they are more than friends. They are sisters. And their love and joy for one another was evident!
Camille, Emily, Annaleigh, Madison, Emma, Caroline, Cristina, Deanne, and Kacey, I am so thankful for the opportunity celebrate with you as you embark on a new adventure!!
I started this business because deep in my heart I believe that a wedding is about so much more than all the pretty details. A wedding day is really about the beginning of a marriage. It is a picture of Jesus Christ returning for His pure and spotless bride, the church! I started this business because I want to tell the story that captures the love and joy of the day a couple says “I do” and really mean for it to last until only death separates them. Caroline & Ian’s lilac and white backyard wedding on Lake Lorman was everything I have built my business for!
Plans change, love remains.
When I first met Caroline & Ian last summer they were planning a big wedding at First Baptist Jackson with the reception at The South. As the wedding day drew near plans were changed to meet the current COVID-19 situation. Caroline’s emails and phone calls to me were always so encouraging! Throughout all the uncertainly her heart has focused on marrying the love of her life, and lifting high the name of Jesus! Everything else was just…. details.
The location was moved to the family lake house, and the guest list was scaled back to simply the family and bridal party. It may not have been the day they originally envisioned, but Caroline & Ian’s backyard wedding on Lake Lorman was absolutely perfect!
The Wedding Day
The rain came. The rain went. The ceremony time changed two or three times. The timeline was thrown out and we simply went with the flow. No matter what the weather was doing outside, JOY was the prevalent mood in the atmosphere!
The clouds parted just in time for the ceremony. The gentle breeze coming off the lake kept the air cool and the bridesmaids dresses flowing beautifully! Ian’s reaction as he caught his first glempse of Caroline was priceless. There was not a dry eye in the small gathering of friends and family.
As dinner was served on the lawn, toasts were made. Steady. Nice. Friend. Dependable. Perfect for each other. I heard these words repeatedly as Caroline & Ian’s friends and family talked lovingly about the impact these two have had on each of their lives.
It has been such an honor to work with Caroline & Ian throughout their engagement and wedding day! I am honored to know them and to celebrate with them! It has been a joy to capture and edit the images from their beautiful backyard wedding on Lake Lorman!
With having the kids home All. The. Time. I found myself having a harder time than usual keeping the house clean. I have had “create a chore chart” on my to-do list for months, but never seem to have the time to actually sit down and do it.
I have searched and searched over the years for the perfect cleaning checklist, but have never found anything that really fit the needs of my own life and family. So this week I created my own! I have revised it over the last several days until I think I have it perfect… at least for our family!
I have created a daily, weekly, and monthly checklist that I now have taped on the inside of a kitchen cabinet. Throughout the day I check off what has been done! I love the feeling of accomplishment as I check of each item!
And let’s be honest. Not every task is checked off every day. But there is freedom in knowing that the task will be done the next day, next week, or next month!
I hope this cleaning routine checklist helps bring a little peace and order to this season of chaos in your own home. I know it has been tremendously helpful in ours!
MK + Spencer had big wedding plans. A large guest list. McClain Lodge booked. Bridal party and family flying in from all over the world. Then came coronavirus and social distancing. Necessary changes were made, including moving the wedding up, changing the location to the front yard, then limiting the number all the way down to ten. But the coronavirus can’t stop this love!
While the day may have been very different from what MK + Spencer originally envisioned, it was one of the sweetest wedding days I have ever been a part of!
Saturday, March 28, 2020 may not have been the original date MK + Spencer picked to hold their wedding celebration. But we could not have asked for a more beautiful day!
After changing their wedding date, MK + Spencer realized that the new wedding date was also the five year anniversary of their first date! Who knew a prom date would turn into wedding bells?!?!
To keep the number of people at the wedding as low as possible, Bethany of Oak Experience and I were the only two vendors in attendance. Bethany’s floral designs are always amazing! I especially love capturing her bridal bouquets!
I just love a bride getting ready in her mother’s bedroom! There is something just so sweet about the history and familiarity of the setting.
Social distancing would not stop MK’s bridesmaids from having their first look via FaceTime!
Bride + Groom Portraits
In keeping with the current social distancing requirements, the bride’s parent’s went live on FaceBook for the wedding ceremony! Over 100 people from around the world watched LIVE as MK + Spencer said “I do”!!
MK + Spencer waved to the friends who drove up and stayed in their cars for the ceremony!
Reception + Exit
This bottle of champaign was purchased on MK’s parent’s honeymoon in Hawaii 24 years ago!
Neighbors held signs of congratulations and stood at the end of their driveways as MK + Spencer drove away!
Creating routine during quarantine? Yep. You read that right.
Between spring break and the following school closures, my kids have now been home for two full weeks. We are all going a little crazy, to put it mildly! By mid afternoon my toddlers are quite literally bouncing off the walls, and let’s just say I am not handling it well.
One of my goals at the beginning of 2020 was to establish a daily schedule with regular routines and rhythms. Unfortunately with the busy every day life, this goal keeps getting pushed to the side for the sake of my business and/or ministry. I began to recognize that I was over extended in February, and Holy Spirit led me to release a leadership role at church as well as classes I was taking that would eventually lead to ordination. Letting go of “busy” has not been easy, and it is a process. But it has been necessary.
And now it feels like so much has come to a screeching halt in our world. COVID-19 has us spending the majority of our time at home and practicing social distancing. As an introvert this sounds glorious! Ha! But as a mom with three kids at home, it is resulting in mass chaos within the walls of our home!
So now is the time. Time to establish a schedule. Time to create routine during our quarantine.
She so eloquent put into words what I have already been thinking. How can I make the most of this season? How can I use this season to focus more on my family? What do I have in my business that I can finally get done now that I have some extra time?
This sift in thinking actually has me EXCITED for the weeks ahead!
This is the season I become the mom that I WANT to be! This is the season that my home takes on the rhythms of order and structure that I long for!
I wanted to share some additional resources that I have found and that I am beginning to use in our own home life.
Positive Parenting Solutions: I LOVE good education! And this parenting resource is GOLD! I purchased this online course back at Christmas, but I have only made time to watch the first few lessons. This is the time to watch the full course and really implement all it teaches!
Playing Preschool: Let’s be real. I have no idea what to do with my toddlers to keep them entertained, much less to TEACH them! Mother’s Day Out twice a week has been an amazing blessing, but is not an option for this season. It is time to dig into homeschooling my little people. I have purchased this amazing resources and I am so excited to jump in with Isaac and Pippa!
