Backyard Wedding on Lake Lorman | Mr and Mrs Carmichael

Mississippi Lakeside Wedding

I started this business because deep in my heart I believe that a wedding is about so much more than all the pretty details. A wedding day is really about the beginning of a marriage. It is a picture of Jesus Christ returning for His pure and spotless bride, the church! I started this business because I want to tell the story that captures the love and joy of the day a couple says “I do” and really mean for it to last until only death separates them. Caroline & Ian’s lilac and white backyard wedding on Lake Lorman was everything I have built my business for!

Plans change, love remains.

When I first met Caroline & Ian last summer they were planning a big wedding at First Baptist Jackson with the reception at The South. As the wedding day drew near plans were changed to meet the current COVID-19 situation. Caroline’s emails and phone calls to me were always so encouraging! Throughout all the uncertainly her heart has focused on marrying the love of her life, and lifting high the name of Jesus! Everything else was just…. details.

The location was moved to the family lake house, and the guest list was scaled back to simply the family and bridal party. It may not have been the day they originally envisioned, but Caroline & Ian’s backyard wedding on Lake Lorman was absolutely perfect!

The Wedding Day

The rain came. The rain went. The ceremony time changed two or three times. The timeline was thrown out and we simply went with the flow. No matter what the weather was doing outside, JOY was the prevalent mood in the atmosphere!

The clouds parted just in time for the ceremony. The gentle breeze coming off the lake kept the air cool and the bridesmaids dresses flowing beautifully! Ian’s reaction as he caught his first glempse of Caroline was priceless. There was not a dry eye in the small gathering of friends and family.

Pastor Chip Stevens of First Baptist Church Jackson shared a message on Biblical marriage that brought tears to my eyes. Jesus Christ was certainly honored in the sacred ceremony where two became one.

As dinner was served on the lawn, toasts were made. Steady. Nice. Friend. Dependable. Perfect for each other. I heard these words repeatedly as Caroline & Ian’s friends and family talked lovingly about the impact these two have had on each of their lives.

It has been such an honor to work with Caroline & Ian throughout their engagement and wedding day! I am honored to know them and to celebrate with them! It has been a joy to capture and edit the images from their beautiful backyard wedding on Lake Lorman!

Caroline chose to wear her mother’s wedding dress. Her sister Victoria also wore the same dress on her wedding day! Victoria and Caroline each changed the sleeves to make it uniquely their own.

A Joyful Wedding At Sterling Hall | Mr and Mrs Becker

Joyful Bride

Mr and Mrs Becker’s joyful wedding at Sterling Hall in Canton, MS was an absolute delight to capture! From the moment I met Mary + Jonny I knew these are quite possibly the two happiest, most in love people on the planet! Their passionate love for Jesus overflows to one another and every person they meet. It has been such an honor to get to know them these past few months. And what a joy to walk with them through their wedding day!

We spent the majority of the day at the new Sterling Hall venue in Canton, MS. This has already become one of my favorite venues! The New Orleans style gives a timeless vibe to this stunning hall! The crystal chandeliers and wrought iron balcony creates an elegant atmosphere for this wedding.

The ceremony was held at Pinehaven Presbyterian Church in Clinton, MS. Jonny and his dad helped to renovate this beautiful white church. It was not only a beautiful setting for the exchange of vows, but also held special significance to this sweet couple.

The vendor team for this wedding was also special. The bridal bouquet was arranged by the mother-of-the-bride, who also altered the bride’s beautiful gown. The bridesmaids each put together their own bouquets. The bride’s mom also made the cakes, and the whole family pitched in to decorate both Sterling Hall and Pinehaven church! Everything was so beautiful and handled with an expert touch!

Mary + Jonny, I have been praying for you these past months. The scripture passage the Lord keeps giving me to pray over you is Song of Solomon 8 from The Passion Translation. I pray that your passion for Jesus continues to fan into flames your passion for one another!

Mississippi Country Wedding | Mr and Mrs Sullivan

Mississippi Country Wedding

Saturday I had the honor of celebrating Hayden + Brandon with their families and friends at their Mississippi Country wedding. The celebration was held at Hayden’s family’s farm, and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful location!

My last wedding of 2019 was filled with beautiful details and family heirlooms that made my heart sing! Hayden + Brandon honored their families and their faith with every detail of their wedding day. From the cake servers and ring bearer pillow used in Hayden’s parent’s wedding, a first look with both of their parents, and the unity tree where dirt from each of their childhood homes was added during the ceremony, each detail told the story of a rich heritage of love built on a foundation of faith.

Hayden + Brandon, I have been praying for you and your new marriage as I have edited these images. I truly sense the Lord’s joy and excitement as you have made this step in obedience to His plan for your lives. I pray that you will always seek Him for clear direction in each decision you face. I pray His protection over you both, physically and emotionally, as you serve Jesus in your jobs and your personal lives. I pray that His love with fill you to overflowing! Abundant love for one another that overflows to each person you encounter, drawing many into the Kingdom of Heaven!

It has been such an honor to pray for you throughout your engagement, and to celebrate with you at your Mississippi Country wedding! I pray our friendship will continue for many years to come!

A Classic Southern Wedding at First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Wedding

Josh & Cayla’s classic southern wedding at First Presbyterian Church in Meridian, MS was such a joy to capture! Every detail from the soft pink florals to the timeless blue suits, was absolute perfection.

I loved getting to know Josh & Cayla during their engagement session. We got to know each other as Josh drove us around the lake where he spent so much time as a child, stopping in beautiful locations to capture the love they share in beautiful images. I was so excited to see them again this past Saturday as their wedding day was finally here!

The wedding ceremony was held at the historic First Presbyterian Church of Meridian, built in 1913. The beautiful stone facade and traditional decor of the sanctuary were the perfect setting for Josh and Cayla’s timeless wedding day style. Dr. Rhett G. Payne, III led us in a worshipful service, honoring Jesus as Josh & Cayla became one before God and congregation of witnesses.

Following the ceremony, the wedding party boarded the Meridian Trolly for the ride to The Max to celebrate the newly married couple. The party was kicked off by the traditional first dances, followed by Style Entertainment leading a high energy dance party! The culmination of the evening was the sparkler exit and Josh & Cayla speeding away in a classic 1950’s Chevrolet Belair!

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to capture Josh & Cayla’s classic southern wedding at First Presbyterian Church in Meridian, MS!

8 Wedding Photography Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

It happens; some brides look at their wedding photos and feel an immense sense of disappointment. Here are some common wedding photography mistakes to avoid. Here are 8 wedding photography mistakes you don’t want to make.

Mistake 1: Not hiring a second photographer

Weddings are expensive and all couples want to save money where they can but your photography shouldn’t be one of those things. A second photographer is well worth the extra money as they are able to capture moments from a different point of view or moments that your primary photographer might miss altogether because they are busy taking other photos.

Mistake 2: Skipping the first look shots

You can save a lot of time by shooting first look photos as sometimes ceremonies run late and you need to rush through your couple portraits in order to get to the reception on time. The first look photos are also very special in their own way and capture the raw emotion as you see each other for the first time.

Mistake 3: Waiting until the last minute to book a photographer

The longer you wait to book a photographer, the less chance you’ll be able to secure the photographer you really want. Some photographers are booked a year in advance so it’s never too early to book.

Mistake 4: Not picking someone to help organize your guests

Sometimes getting your family and wedding party together to take a few photos can be a nightmare, and this isn’t something that you should be worrying about on the day. Ask someone in your wedding party or even your MC to be in charge of making sure that the right people are in the right place for photos on the day.

Mistake 5: Looking directly at the camera all the time

Unless your photographer tells you to look at the camera, try and act as natural as possible and enjoy your day with your loved ones and your groom as these make for the best photos.

Mistake 6: Not having a rain backup plan

The weather can change so it’s a really good idea to have a plan for if it rains, especially if your ceremony or reception will be held outdoors. You should also be emotionally prepared for the fact that you might need to postpone your couple portraits if the weather doesn’t clear up.

Mistake 7: Failing to arrange an engagement shoot

Not only is it wonderful to capture this time as a newly engaged couple but it gives you the chance to practice and get comfortable in front of the camera. It also gives you the opportunity to get to know your photographer so that you are completely relaxed on the day.

Mistake 8: Hiring an amateur

It’s great when a family member or friend offers to take the photos at your wedding but hiring someone who isn’t a professional photographer has its setbacks. If you have a few photographers in mind, be sure to go through their portfolios to ensure that their work is up to scratch before you pay a deposit.

Emiley & Jonathan | A Mississippi Cotton Field Engagement Session

When Jonathan’s mom Adina emailed me about shooting her son’s wedding, I just couldn’t believe my friend had a son old enough to get married!! Adina and I met in a Bible Study 10+ years ago, and she has been a prayer warrior in my life ever since! What an honor it is to be chosen to capture her son’s special day!!

I first “met” Emiley & Jonathan on a FaceTime call where we were able to get to know one another, hear the story of how they met in Jujitsu class, and their passionate love of Jesus!! I was so excited that we were able to find time for an engagement session before their November wedding!!

Emiley send me photos she found on Pinterest of portraits in a cotton field, and my mission became finding a cotton field to make her vision come true! Thanks to family friends, we were given permission to use a beautiful cotton field in Carthage… and the results are STUNNING!!! Not only was the location and lighting ideal in every way, but these two are simply gorgeous!! And just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, we had the most LIFE GIVING conversation about Jesus on the drive back to town!! I am so encouraged by Emiley & Jonathan’s passionate pursuit of the One who created them and loves them!! They are going deeper with Him and He is truly the center of their lives and relationship!!

Emiley & Jonathan, I can not wait to capture your wedding in November!! And even more than that, I can’t wait to see how you both grow in your relationship with Jesus and one another!! Oh the plans He has for you both!!!
